Quilt In A Day Media Theater

By Eleanor Burns Quilt In A Day

As a young woman it was determined I had dyslexia. At that time there wasn't much known about the condition. I learned how to adapt, breaking words down as though there was no disability. After college I became a special education teacher. I understood having special needs and related to the students.

Eventually, the habit of thinking "step by step" led me to try quilting. I isolated each phase and figured out a way to make patterns less complex, and how to make many of the traditional quilt patterns using 2 ½" fabric strips. Now there is an eager audience, ready to learn an easy way to quilt. The skills I learned and the passion to teach has helped me write over 100 books and quilt patterns that most people can understand. It is a misconception that quilting is difficult and tedious. In our grandmothers' day, it was time consuming. Quilters pieced together bits of fabric, cut to shape with scissors. Today, we have rotary cutters, mats, special rulers, tools and patterns that are easier to understand – all to make the task quicker.

If you are like me, you learn best by "seeing" rather than reading. On our website quilters can see and learn as they watch my videos. The videos are the same ones you see on my television shows. They are free to view anytime, day or night. You can position your laptop next to your sewing machine and sew right along with me as I teach my method of Flying Geese Patches, half square triangles, applique, strip piecing, mitering, borders, binding, and so much more!

My son Orion is my producer, director, cameraman, and media guru. He developed the Media Theater on our website because so many quilters were unable to watch my Quilt in a Day show on their television. Over the last 33 years, I have had thousands of questions about different techniques and this concerned me. My goal is to promote the art of quilting, to make it fun, easy, and rewarding. Orion told me about streaming video over the Internet. We live in the computer age and we might as well take advantage of it. You can sit at your computer and watch video on thousands of subjects, and for many, this is a great way to learn new ideas, techniques, methods and so on. Just like my television shows, this streaming video allows me to show you how to accomplish hundreds of techniques. The Quilt in a Day Media Theater is perfect for beginning quilters as well as seasoned quilters.

Join me in the Quilt in a Day Media Theater and let's quilt together!
