Welcome to the Quilting Den

Connie and Charlie PhillipsThe Quilting Den in Eau Claire, MI, is a wonderful place to get your quilt tops professionally quilted. Owners are Connie and Charlie Phillips, and the couple quilt with the Statler Stitchers.

“The patterns that are available for this longarm quilting machine are unbelievable,” said Connie. “We have simply to complex designs – something for anybody and everybody.”

To share a little background about this quilting couple, Connie has always enjoyed sewing; however, she was not interested in making garments. Connie was in a fabric shop and a customer brought in a quilt to show to the clerks. She knew as soon as she saw the quilt that she wanted to sew.

“I bought fabric, books, and magazines and taught myself to quilt,” Connie said. “I enjoyed making quilt tops for myself and my family.”

It wasn’t long and Connie started having lots of quilt tops that needed finishing. It just so happened that her husband was nearing retirement and was seeking a hobby to pass the time. Thus, the idea of a quilting business was born.

So the Phillips went to Quilt Market in Houston where they discovered the Statler Stitcher quilting machine. It was a computerized longarm quilting machine that ran with software and came with hundreds of designs. Charlie was interested and set up a time to meet with the original designer of the Statler Stitcher, Paul Statler.

“Shortly after the visit, we purchased the Statler Stitcher and never looked back,” said Charlie. “The Statler Stitcher makes precise, accurate stitches on blocks, borders, and overall designs.”

Connie and Charlie practiced one year on the Statler and then decided to do quilting for the public. They have since added an additional Statler Stitcher longarm machine.

“I enjoy seeing the most beautiful and diverse quilt tops that come to us. I also love the patterns our customers select to have quilted on their tops,” Connie noted. “I also enjoy it when they tell us to select a pattern for them. It’s fun being able to use so many different patterns to beautifully finish these quilts for our customers.”
